FAQs
DO YOU PAINT ADULTS?
Absolutely! It's my very favorite thing to do.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PAINTING?
I have been working for almost 20 years in the decorative arts field, painting walls, furniture, doors, barns, clothing, shoes, glassware, tile, cabinets - basically, anything other than paper and canvas.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN FACE PAINTING?
Face painting took over my life quite by accident some years ago when a friend from an animal rights group I volunteer with called in a panic because the face painter she had engaged for a big fundraiser canceled at the last minute. She wanted me to fill in. I told her that I never had done face painting. In fact, I'd never even seen anyone doing face painting. But, she was desperate (and flattered me shamelessly) so, eventually, I gave in.
It was love at first brush stroke. I began to read books, take classes, subscribe to magazines, watch DVDs, and attend conventions. With every new technique I learned, I became more and more excited about this particular medium. I have been a professional face painter since 1996.
WHAT KIND OF PAINT DO YOU USE?
I only use PROFESSIONAL FACE PAINT. I NEVER, EVER use craft paint, acrylics, oil paint, etc. Those paints are not meant for use on skin. They can and do cause serious allergic reactions in some people. All the paints I use were created specifically for use on the face. They are easy to remove, non-toxic, FDA-compliant, and hypoallergenic. They are not cheap, mass market products. I buy only the highest-quality PROFESSIONAL make-up from around the world.
DO YOU PAINT ANYTHING BESIDES PEOPLE?
Yes. I belong to an international group of artists who paint "memory boxes" for families who have suffered the loss of an infant. These handpainted boxes are donated to a local hospital, where grieving families may choose free of charge a one-of-a-kind box to hold whatever few keepsakes they have from the birth and brief life of their baby.
